Meet our June Builder of the Month, Josh Osmer of Wausau Homes North Aurora.
Josh worked for a homebuilding company in his younger years, and he eventually branched out to start his own construction company. Now, Josh is an expert at navigating the homebuilding process and is ready to help make every buyer’s custom home building experience an enjoyable one from start to finish.

How long have you been a Wausau Homes builder?

I started talking with Wausau Homes in late 2015 to learn more about being a builder. By spring of 2016 I had my Design Studio open for business!

How did you get into the home building business?

I think it was a pretty common progression for a 1st generation builder. I worked for a custom homebuilding company, then started my own small-scale construction company. I continued to grow my business over the years as I felt comfortable taking on larger scope projects.

Why did you choose to be a Wausau Homes builder?

That’s not an easy answer. There’s probably thousands of little reasons! Everything from the support of Wausau Homes, the precision of the components, the 3 Step Building Process, the delivery system, ongoing training, the vision for the company’s future, and a ton of other reasons. All things that allow me to be a better homebuilder and deliver a better finished product to my clients as well as provide the best building experience I can for them.

When you’re not building homes what do you like to do?

I have 3 young children that I love hanging out with. We go camping, head to the family lake house, cub scouts, just play outside at home, and my kids love playing card games like Uno and Go Fish, so lots of that at night.

What part of the custom home building process do you find the most rewarding?

Probably seeing the look on a client’s face when the house is set. It’s a really fun, high energy day and watching the reaction of the owners as the house is being built is always a great thing to see!

If you were building your dream home what is the one feature you would have to have?

A big garage. I would probably get overruled by my wife though and we’d end up with a covered patio that has a fireplace, and that would be pretty cool too.

What is one tip you would give to all custom home buyers?

Start the planning process as early as possible. If you want to build in 3 years, start plans now!

Are there any home building trends in your area that stand out?

We have everything from entry-level starter homes to enormous estates, and the range of trends is about as broad. It does seem like over the past 6-7 years the shiplap and barn doors have been pretty popular across the board.

What has been your most rewarding build to date and why?

Really, they are all very rewarding. From the smallest and least complicated homes, to the huge extremely complicated homes that are filled with detail. Every project has owners that have been dreaming about building a home for quite some time, usually for a few years or more. Being able to deliver a high-quality custom home that someone has trusted me to build is a great feeling.

What events can interested home buyers find you at in the coming months?

Set Day parties! Assuming we can get done with the whole lockdown thing.
