Meet our October Builder of the Month, Ben Fredrick of Wausau Homes Marshfield.
With over 20 years in the construction industry and their award winning realtor background, this power couple is incredibly talented.

Keep reading to get to know Ben and Ashley on a more personal level with our Q&A.

How long have you been a Wausau Homes builder?

My wife and I opened our storefront in July of 2019 but started the process of partnering with Wausau Homes in February of 2019.

How did you get into the home building business?

A high school friend’s family owned a local construction company and hired me for summer help, which turned into working there for over ten years before I started my own construction company.

Why did you choose to be a Wausau Homes builder?

We believe in the systems that allow for a quicker build without sacrificing quality, and that’s why we wanted to become a Wausau Homes builder. We also liked the ability to have a design studio where customers could touch and feel many of the products that they were looking to use in there build. We have also found it to be extremely helpful to be a part of an organization with other builders who look to help one another with questions, ideas, new ways to do things, etc. We are extremely thankful for Bert Steckbauer from Wausau Homes Plover, who from Day one, didn’t hesitate to pick up the phone to answer questions, meet us for drinks to brainstorm, or invite us to his Set Days.

When you’re not building homes what do you like to do?

In my spare time, I like to hunt, fish, golf, travel, spend time with family and friends, and build projects.

What part of the custom home building process do you find the most rewarding?

When a homeowner tells you that you made their dream home a reality.

If you were building your dream home what is the one feature you would have to have?

The non-typical response would be an underground tunnel to my shop. However, the more realistic answer is a theater room with a popcorn machine and a bar!

What is one tip you would give to all custom home buyers?

To be sure that you are comparing apples to apples when making decisions and that you feel comfortable asking any and all questions to your builder.

Are there any home building trends in your area that stand out?

We are still seeing quite a bit of farmhouse trends, but more recently, a lot of black accents – walls, light fixtures, and even windows.

What has been your most rewarding build to date and why?

Our recent custom build was one our most rewarding builds for a few reasons: all the subcontractors worked extremely well together to stay on track, the sunsets were pretty great, but most importantly the customers were fantastic to work with. They were open to ideas and suggestions from early on, and together we were able to build them a stunning home they will enjoy for many years to come.

What events can interested home buyers find you at in the coming months?

Interested home buyers can find us at any of our upcoming builds. Due to COVID, many of our other events have been postponed, but we are always happy to accommodate a meeting at our design studio following social distancing guidelines.
